When studying closely both K & C and Proud it becomes apparent that our knowledge of the Locations, Detailed opening & closing and indeed their function and purpose is unknown or not recorded for many of these offices.
Some offices are better detailed that others.
Without a detailed trawl through the 'Official History of the Great War' which runs to a large number of parts and probally thousands of pages and then might give us nothing I know of no further publication which has looked at these offices.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Many thanks for your response. WWII is an area I steer cclear of but I am aware of some of the publications you quote. As you write the National Archives can be a Gold Mine of information. A few years ago pre pandemic I spent a considerable amount of time there photographing WWI War Diaries and other documents.
Now of course much more is coming on line both in the UK and many other countries, some of which are far ahead of us in what they've put online.
