Censor 6/3414

Morning Team

As part of my studies in the censor series and quest for scans etc, I'm currently working my way through the back journals, this one came in as a Query back in Journal 304, I record no other example, has anyone seen this censor?

1941 cover to Malta

Hi! Can anyone help me with some information regarding this undeliverable and returned letter to Ta Kali, Malta in 1941, please. The postage rate, 1 1/2 pence, is this the correct surface rate to Malta at this time? What does the abbreviation S.H.A. mean?

Chris

Illustrated is the censor mark Nick refers to which includes R.M.A. and is obviously a naval censor mark shown in Michael Gould's book at 3B26.

Gould remarks that examples with the R.M.A. cut out, like yours are "known from early July 1915". However an illustration of this variation he shows at 5A75 also has the 'LIEUTENANT' omitted which he says has been seen on the same correspondence.

I do not have either of the omitted versions

The three examples I have of the illustrated cover are to different addressees and with dates 7.6.15, 31.7.15 and 3.10.15varying from 3.10.15

Not sure we have moved the discussion on at all !

Cheers

Tony
