Further thoughts on this censor, after reviewing the two copies of 'The Dhow' which Neil sent me I can extend AKs' recorded dates to ERD 11/04/17, LRD 20/01/18.

This raises the question was 3009 used anywhere else prior to use in Aden.

CM 3 was issued in April 1915 for use on the Western Front, Replaced there Jan 16 but used later in Egypt, Salonika and a couple of other areas.

3009 falls in a block recorded used in Egypt, 3008 is recorded April 16 onwards, nothing currently recorded for 3010 to 3012 and 3013 in Egypt by September 16. The latter part of 3000 + continues with Egypt use mainly.

As Aden lies at the southern end of the Red Sea it's likely 3009 was supplied by GOC Egypt I believe. Does anyone have examples or records of CM 3, 3010 to 3012.

A J's record card showing what he recorded for early Airmail with the RAF Squadron details etc.

Finally,

A card showing what A K recorded for the changeover dates in June 1916 and for myself more interest the return dates in February 1919 when units regained their original pre June 1916 datestamps.

Literature suggests that the 1919 return was 1st February, the right hand side column looks like dates in February where units received their original cancels, these run between the 1st and 25th.

This will have a knock on effect for the study of the use of CM 6 censor stamps in February 1919 if these dates are correct. Currently I've found nothing further connected with this material.

Currently working my way through some of A K's record cards which deserve wider sharing than what they have received so far.

I show the card covering the information collected for Aden.

My interest is the reference to CM 3 / 3009, the first mention I'd seen for this one, Checking FD he recorded it as shown.

Two questions has anyone a copy proving its use, also who was J R Croft who A K mentions ?

In time I will scan all these cards they fit nicely front and reverse on a page in Word so creating a permanent record easy to share or distribute online. I currently have two boxes of these cards and understand there is one more held within the society.

I have a cover with a red circular cachet with the words "GENERAL STAFF M.O.2 WAR OFFICE" and an OFFICIAL PAID / LIVERPOOL cancel dated 4 M(?) 40.

Can anyone inform me what department or directorate M.O.2 was?

Sorting through these cards on some there is a note (IWM 323) or a different number.

I know A K obtained information from many sources. What comes to mind on this note is, Imperial War Museum and the number represents a file or folio. I have visited the Imperial War Museum but never the Documents section, from memory I think you used to have to pre-book.

Anyone any thoughts on what the note means if different from what I'm thinking?

Continuing my quest on these censors I've recently made a start on the A Kennedy Reference Cards I have access to.

Unfortunately the cards covering the 'S' series of offices show no censor data. These will be useful clarifying some of the locations I feel.

However other cards are more forthcoming, there are a small series covering the (FPO) A 1 to A 5 offices where he shows recorded material.

Does anyone have any material from these series of offices please. I feel that what A K has listed can be extended.
