HMS Oakel ? WWI

This cover shows an example of Gould 4A50 in the Part I book where no ship is given. It measures 31 x 4. .In Part II on page 56 the mark is given a name Oakel, but I can find no trace of such a ship. The censor marks of HMS Oak and Royal Oak are nothing like this..... any ideas?

Nick - you're quite right !

I have discovered a correspondence I had with Michael Gould about this cover which was subsequently shown as 4A56 with a tentative allocation to HMS Benbow, which I think is unlikely. Also omitting the full stop from the measurement this is now 30 x 4 which is why I reckon it is 4A56 rather than 4A50.

So you needn't worry about getting glasses!
